The dawn of the new millennium is here.
However, no matter how close or bright that first light is, you cannot see it unless you are awake. Unless you open your eyes, light will still remain darkness to you. The beauty of dawn can be appreciated only by those who are awake to greet the dawn.
It is time for us to open our eyes. It is time for us to awaken to new possibilities and make them real. It is time for us to awaken our dormant spirituality—first as individuals, then as whole nations, and finally as the whole of humanity—and raise up our collective consciousness.
Poised at the dawning of the new millennium, we are still faced with the brutality of the civil war in Albania, the unspeakable cruelty of the fights between the Hutus and Tutsis in Africa, the stubborn hatred exhibited in the cruel battles between Russians and Chechens, and the insidious disease of violence and bigotry tragically illustrated by the twelve separate multiple shootings in the United States in 1999 alone. All these and other events that create headlines around the world today only go to show that we are still surrounded by confusion and darkness.
