Enlightenment means True Love, the thing that makes us truly human and sets us above the other animals that share this earth with us. Without knowing our True Self, we cannot know True Love. True Love is not selfish love, egotistical love, controlling love, or domineering love. True Love is love that is all-encompassing and willingly given regardless of its recipients. True Love is the love we hold for Heaven, Earth, Man, and all of existence. Why do we have to seek enlightenment? To recover True Love in our hearts. By losing the memory of True Love in our hearts, we have fallen from being gods to being animals. Now we need to rejoin the ranks of the divine.
Notwithstanding all the wonderful rhetroric about True Love and True Self, hovever, enlightenment is not sweetsounding words and abstract concepts. Enlightenment is a concrete, reality-based goal that everyone can attain. Enlightenment is also a physiological phenomenon that you can achieve using your brain. Enlightenment can happen in the everyday world. Not as a freak of accident, but as the result of a series of concrete steps that can be accomplished through will, discipline, and a sense of responsibility, like any other worthwhile goal. Enlightenment just happens to be the most worthwhile goal that I can imagine for a human being. The possibility of the universality of enlightenment—this is exactly what I want to emphasize in this book.
