This meditation exercise uses deep focus and visualization to help relax and energize the brain. It is also excellent for developing relaxed concentration.
01. Sit comfortably on the floor or in a chair, palms facing upward on your knees or thighs. Close your eyes and focus on the surface of your palms.
02. Keep focusing on your palms, feeling any sensation that is present. You may feel tingling, warmth, or some other sensation. Whatever you feel is fine, as long as you keep focusing on the palms.
03. Now slowly bring your palms off your knees, and hold them about 2-3 inches apart. In your mind’s eye, imagine that there is a golden ball of light between your hands. As you breathe in, increase your ball of light as you move your hands more widely, and let it shrink as you exhale.
04. Slowly bring the imaginary ball of light to your head. Visualize the bright energy sinking into the head and into the brain.
05. Return your palms to your knees and focus on your brain. Continue to visualize bright light emanating from within the brain.
